Jason Yip has written a excellent article about daily-standup meetings. In this article he describes the purpose with the activity and how to do it. He also describes what could go wrong and how to solve this. I think it is the best description of Daily Scrum that exists today on the net. Jason Yip defines the purpose with the meeting as:

Daily stand-ups should achieve the following goals:

  • share commitment
  • communicate daily status, progress, and plans to the team and any observers
  • identify obstacles so that the team can take steps to remove them
  • set direction and focus
  • build a team

Please read It’s Not Just Standing Up: Patterns of Daily Stand-up Meetings for more details on each item.
